Getting there
Phi Phi is reached only by boat, so the day starts on land: drive to one of Phuket's piers — Rassada near Phuket Town is the main one, with Chalong and Bang Rong also used by some operators — and join a speedboat or longtail tour from there. Having your own rented scooter or car makes the early-morning run to the pier easy and flexible, so you arrive on your schedule rather than a shuttle's; just allow time to park before boarding. Tours typically include hotel pick-up if you prefer, but self-driving lets you pick the pier and beat the queues.
Best time to visit
Go early in the day to reach the bays before the crowds, and aim for the November-to-April dry season when seas are calmest and visibility is best. The monsoon months can bring rougher crossings and cancellations.
